Client: OPTrust
Location: Seattle
Size: 927 units, 121 short-term stay suites, and commercial
After Canadian pension fund OPTrust took over the two-tower WB1200 project, in Seattle’s Denny Triangle neighborhood, from developer Westbank in 2025, the project needed a new identity.
The project is significant, containing 927 apartments, 121 short-term stay suites, commercial uses, including a Trader Joe’s and Live Nation concert venue, and a multi-story galleria that features a full-size former United Airlines Boeing 747 fuselage. One tricky factor is that the project started construction in 2018 but faced multiple delays. In the meantime, competing projects that started construction around the same time delivered, and new projects got underway.
Red Propeller, partnering with Katie Phipps Graphic Design, collaborated with OPTrust, project advisor Cobalt, and the interior design team from Ankrom Moisan to create a compelling consumer-facing name, brand, and story that would unify multiple visions and elements and help the project stand out and succeed in an intensely competitive high-rise submarket. AERO1200 and the AEROLUX brand for the constituent hotel evoke Seattle’s history of aviation and aerospace innovation, the golden era of air travel, and the gracefulness of flight.
